WEN PW31 3100 PSI Gas Pressure Washer

WEN is a U.S. company of long-standing. From inverter generator to pneumatic brad nailer, the company has been designing and distributing high quality and affordable power tools for a long time. If you have a need for a residential pressure washer, their products can be a good choice. Now, let us take a closer look at one of their products, WEN PW31.

The motor delivers a powerful 3100 PSI, that suggests that it is designed for medium duty cleansing. Of course, when evaluating pressure washers, PSI is not the only rating to consider. Pressure washer’s cleaning power, as you know, is the combination of PSI and GPM. Powered by a 208cc engine, this unit allows water to flow at a rate of 2.5 GPM, much better than light duty machines out there that typically has a flow rate of less than 2 gallons per minute at a lower amount of pressure.

The capacity of the fuel tank is 1.25 gallons. The oil capacity of the engine is 15.3 fl oz (450 ml). It takes 4-cycle engine oil (SAE10W30) to operate. The unit makes use of axial camp pressure pump for the working. This type of pump is found on many pressure washers designed for homeowners. Though triplex pumps tend last longer than axial pumps, the latter are generally more economical. Triplex pumps are usually outfitted on commercial units.

As with the number one rated Simpson model, MSH3125-S, this machine from WEN also comes with five nozzles (0, 15, 25, 40 deg nozzles plus a soap nozzle). There are tip holders on the body to keep the nozzles securely in place. The 15 degreen spray tip is ideal for spot cleaning, blasting, and hard to reach areas. The 25 degree nozzle gives medium-impact spray. For general cleaning use, the white colored 40 degreen spray tip is the best choice. It produces the widest spray angle. As with other models, the WEN PW31 has a nozzle for soaping. Located on the bottom of the unit there is a tank for detergent.

Aside from those, the package also includes a spray gun, a 20” stainless lance/wand, a nozzle cleaner, and a high pressure hose. The extra length of the washer hose is definitely a big plus. Unlike most manufacturers that only provide 20 to 25 feet long pipes, this unit has a longer 30-foot hose, making it easier for you to reach more areas of your home. Hose diameter is 5/16”. Basically, 5/16″ hoses are meant for prosumer-grade gas pressure washers. To prevent accidental engagement, the trigger comes equipped with a locking mechanism.

For such a power house of a washer, the WEN PW31 weighs a relatively lightweight at 67 lbs. The solid tire is another positive aspect of this WEN power washer. You never have to worry about pumping up low or flat tires. The large, 12 inch wheels on the back make it easy to move around on rough surfaces. Going up and down steps would not be a big challenge. For easy storage, you can remove the upper part of the handle. The handle is also the way to store the spray gun.

Like most small engines, this WEN power washer uses recoil start system. The unit has an on/off switch, choke, throttle and fuel on/off valve. The OHV, single cylinder, horizontal-shaft engine comes standard with forced air cooling system. Oil is supplied to the components via splash lubrication. As it is stated in the manual, this well reviewed item operates at 63 dB from 22 feet, which is a good thing.

At this time of writing, the WEN PW31 3100 PSI gas pressure washer commands a respectable 4.4 stars out of 5 on the Amazon ratings. Most of the customers seem very satisfied with the build quality and the performance of this pressure cleaner.

There is not much bad to be said for this product. It starts easily with one or two pulls. Though it does not come with an adjustable nozzle, the different heads mean it covers a wide range of applications. From cleaning driveways to washing the car, there are so many applications for this cleaner. Featuring steel frame and rugged wheels, reviewers have also been impressed with the construction of the washer. The bright orange accent gives it a nice look. With a well illustrated instructions, setting it up would not be an issue.

With 3,100 PSI and 2.5 GPM water flow that translates to 7750 cleaning power, the WEN PW31 is very powerful for residential use. The company also sells lower end models if that is what you need. Costing less than $250, the WEN PW28 is driven by a 173 cc OHV engine that pumps up to 2.3 gallons per minute. It only comes with four quick connect nozzles (it does not provide 15 degrees nozzle). That said, it does not necessarily mean that it is not worth taking a closer look.

All in all, the WEN PW31 is a great bargain. If what it offers line up well with your needs, then it would be a good cleaning tool to have. Once this machine is purchased, you can enjoy a two-year warranty, giving you extra peace of mind.
